Jubler is an open-source tool to edit text-based subtitles. It can be used as an authoring software for new subtitles or as a tool to convert, transform, correct and refine existing subtitles. The most popular subtitle formats can be used. Preview of the subtitles in realtime or in design time, spell checking, translation mode and styles editing are some of the main features.
It is under a liberal (GNU) open source license. The latest versions are written in Java 8. Officially macOS, Windows and Linux are supported, but it can be run in other operating systems supporting Java 8.
Some external applications are required: MPlayer for subtitle preview and aspell for spelling.
Part of Jubler is implemented thanks to CrossMobile, the only truly native mobile cross-platform framework.
